BOBCAT LACROSSE
Philosophy
Bobcat Lacrosse strives to help players become good, capable, young men. Players are taught correct principles of hard work, dedication, discipline, citizenship, and brotherhood. As players master these areas, they will become champions.
Every decision made by the coaching staff and members of the Booster Board is to be in the best interest of the current team and the program.
Team Organization
Each level of play is designed to help the players reach their maximum potential and step up to the next level.
- Junior League-
- Instill a love of the game early on.
- Teach solid fundamentals, so when they hit high school they can step right into the system.
- Have Fun!! This is very important at this level.
- Sophomore/Freshman-
- Learn offensive and defensive schemes.
- Start building chemistry and brotherhood with fellow teammates.
- Learn and adhere to team rules.
- Develop culture of discipline and work ethic.
- Feed JV and Varsity programs as needed.
- JV-
- Master offensive and defensive schemes.
- Continue to build chemistry and brotherhood.
- Live by team rules.
- Practice culture of discipline and work ethic.
- Push Varsity program, and set example for younger teams.
- Varsity-
- Perfect system.
- Be good examples and ambassadors of the program.
- Pass it on- to the younger players.
Coaching responsibilities:
The Head Coach establishes the tone for all teams. At this level, a vision is set and followed by all other coaches within the program. The Head Coach is responsible for the following items:
· Establish a desire and expectation of succeeding.
· Create an atmosphere of discipline, with expectations established and clearly communicated at the beginning of the season.
· Document the team code (team rules and consequences for breaking rules. i.e. consequence for missing a practice, being late to a practice, etc.). This code will be applicable for all teams and must be approved by the Booster Board prior to the beginning of the season.
· Follow through consistently, fairly, and timely on any infractions to the team code.
· Develop players to be their “best”, both on and off the field.
· Maintain objectivity with all players (i.e. equal treatment without favoritism).
· Gain players’ respect through example and actions.
· Clearly communicate with sub coaches for consistency between all teams.
· Schedule all games and attend all mandatory Utah Lacrosse meetings.
· Communicate with parents through the parent liaison or individually when necessary.
Booster responsibilities:
The Booster Board is comprised of individuals volunteering time and effort to run the lacrosse program. Boosters are responsible for the following
- Approve all coaching positions.
- Approve team code.
- Player registration.
- Financial transactions (including collecting money, writing checks, reconciling bank statements, filing tax returns, etc.).
- Organization of tournament play.
- Procurement of equipment, team gear, and supplies.
- Communication with parents.
- Promotion of team and activities.
- Coordination of team meals.
Parent responsibilities:
- Support players in attending all conditioning, practices and games.
- Support coaches. Any concerns should be communicated through the parent liaison.
- As your schedule allows, volunteer to help with transportation, meals, field set up, working at the score table, etc.
Player responsibilities:
- Attend all conditioning and practices. Give 100% effort, every time.
- Listen to coaches and learn.
- Show respect at all times to your coach, your teammates, and yourself.
- Accept the responsibility to help make your team successful.
- Conduct yourself with honor both on and off the field.
